Doctor
Do you have in you?
Medicine is all about a person getting or seeking treatment from a physician for certain ailments. Once you have decided you want to go in for medicine, you can pretty much stop calling your life your own. It is then dedicated to curing the ailing and the infirm. There’s not only lot of hard work in terms of studying and working as a doctor but also keeping up to date with the recent developments in order to provide the best cure to your patients. If you are not scared of hard work and are ready to commit yourself to taking care of those who are in pain and are suffering then this world of medicine awaits you.
Commitment as a Student & Job Commitment
One should be ready for the rigorous preparations for the entrance exams. The word ‘doctor’ carries a lot of responsibility and studying to be one can be quite a task. As a student there is constantly a struggle to see through the four and a half years of study. After the trauma of medical school, a period of internship is required, which is a supervised clinical training with a steep learning curve. To be eligible to practice outside, you need to add another two years of MD to your MBBS. As a doctor you should be prepared to put in long hours of work not only during the day but also at night. Its your rapid decision making skills and concentration along with a quest to be upto date with the latest medical research that will be a key to your success.
Basic Qualification
To get an admission to a medical college you need to have passed 10+2 with a minimum merit of 50% in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as your main subjects. You need to clear an entrance exam which can be college specific or can be at county and state level. To specialize in a particular field of medicine you need to appear for an entrance exam which requires MBBS as eligibility.
Attitude Aptitude & Skills
As a doctor you have the skill to save a person’s life. You can be as attached to the patient as you would be to your dear life or be completely detached to take a rational decision at the time of crisis. Anything that works for you, to be an efficient and a responsible doctor. The only driving force for you should be the commitment to heal and if your knowledge is not sufficient to treat a patient and his ailment, then have a heart to surrender. As doctors have to live with constant pressure a lot of in depth knowledge, reading and research and experience counts at the time of crisis. Studies for a doctor never end as he has to keep himself abreast with changing technology and medicines. Last but not the least to be successful you need to be empathetic with the ailing patients and their family as a smiling doctor cures faster than a frowning one.
Finances
Medical college education can be very expensive as there are many years that you have to invest in. It also depends on the college you have secured admission into. Govt. aided colleges are much more reasonable than the private ones. It’s also easier to get an educational loan for medical studies once you have secured admission
Future Prospects
Doctors will always be in demand. With new hospitals coming up and with modernity bringing new ailments doctors can be sure of a secured future.
