The process of becoming an advocate is referred to as "devilling". Devilling lasts for nine months and comprises a mix of skills training courses and time spent working with the advocate.
You can enroll for a five-year course after class 12 or take a course in law after graduation in any discipline. The candidate has to appear for an entrance exams conducted by law schools. The minimum percentage is 55 per cent to be eligible to write the exam conducted by the institute. To be able to qualify for legal practice, the candidate will also require a one-year apprenticeship. To practice law, one has to clear an exam of articled clerk along with two years of articleship.
A lawyer should not only possess the quality of finding the fact but also be able to apply the law in the situation under scrutiny and present it in a convincing way to the Judge in order to protect its client.
