Veterinarian

Are you fit to be
Veterinarian

Do you have in you?

A Veterinarian is a doctor of animals. He takes care of animals. All problems of them, their treatment and cure, immunization, is the job of a vet. Handling animals is not as simple as handling humans, just because of the fact that the former are unaware of what the doctor is doing or why they are in a peculiar place being inspected and poked with needles. Animals have a natural way of healing, but their injuries and diseases are healed faster and better by a vet. For those who love animals, are keen on tending them, and want to be a doctor, being a Veterinarian Doctor is the best choice.

Commitment as a Student & Job Commitment

All those who believe that a doctor of animals has a relaxed life as compared to that of a doctor of humans, then it cannot be more wrong. Animals too fall ill very often, and especially in big cities, where most have a pet, the number of them visiting the vet on a single day can be really huge. Moreover, tending to animals demands more time and patience, and close inspection. They are not as predictable as humans, and also their treatment is not as advanced. a vet thus has to be constantly involved in research, in consultation with others, and finding the best way to cure. Thus the profession demands commitment. And also, it may not remunerate you as much as that of a regular doctor, which would mean that passion and dedication, is necessary.

Attitude Aptitude & Skills

Foremost, you should be in love with animals. You have to be extremely gentle in handling them. There will be times when your particular patient may throw a tantrum and try to injure you, but you have to be patient and kind, and handle it the way you will be taught in medical school. You may have to work long hours at times, and at times have negligible number of patients. You should be able to handle both stress and slack periods. And the more you educate yourself, study and research, and try to innovate, the better it is for your profession.

Future Prospects

A good doctor in India is sure to be a success. But this is not the case with vets. You may be the best and most knowledgeable, but to set up your clinic and draw a clientele may take time. This is because of the nature of the market. There are people who do not visit the vet and some who do not want to experiment thus sticking to the same doctor. There is huge scope but it has to be exploited the right way. Again, people usually take their dogs, but avoid taking other animals like cats, rabbits, to the vet. You can try to make people aware of this need as well as the need to immunize animals at regular intervals. But there has been a significant increase in the demand for vets, and hopefully this will only be greater as more people realise the importance of it.
