Writing has never been categorized under the aegis of profession. It is more of a passion, a hobby, an activity that is loved, than a well defined career with its boundaries and restrictions. It is an inherent art, which can be developed but cannot be forced to be born. Writers are thinking and feeling beings, who translate emotions, events and experiences into words for the rest to read.
You should read on a regular basis. This will generate ideas in your mind, improve your vocabulary, and make you aware of ways of expression. Reading is a must for prospective writers. And working on your diction and vocabulary, grammar and comprehension. Practice writing, read the dictionary, and take the help of teachers and others who can guide you, point out your flaws and train you. Writing requires discipline and motivation. If you really want to be a writer, you will have to devote a lot of time and effort. And be totally committed.
Even a nursery child can be a Writer if he can express verbally. Thus no formal education is required to be a writer. What you need is the ability to portray your thoughts well and legibly which can be understood by the rest. However, some may possess this art but need a bit of polishing. For this, a degree in English helps, where you study texts of eminent authors, practice writing, and under the guidance of teachers are able to nurture your talent. There are a number of online writing guides and tutorials and short term courses that will aid in better writing.
The most essential talent is to be able to write – intelligibly, clearly, with no grammatical errors, and truthfully. What you write should be convincing and not sound made up. If your writing style is convincing, people will be able relate to and connect with your creations. Readers should feel involved. Your writing should be to-the-point and direct. And words should flow like cascade, uninterrupted and automatically, without a break.
Your future prospects depends on your skill. And how popular you are with the readers. The profession can be highly paying – monetarily, and give you a sense of immense satisfaction mentally. Choose what you want to write about, that is, your field of specialization. This typically helps, especially at the initial stages. You can thus write fiction or non fiction, short stories or poems, plays or novels, politics or sports. And this should be dependent on your interest, what you are good at, and feel connected to. Do not attempt to specialization in some genre that you are uncomfortable about.
