Students planning to pursue engineering as a career have a lot of hurdles to cross. They have to ensure that they score well in their XII standard examinations and in addition to that, they have to keep a track of all the various engineering entrance examinations too. Like MBA, a lot of engineering colleges also accept scores from joint entrance tests. So if you plan your moves right, you can prepare well for a few entrance tests and be eligible for admission in a lot of different colleges.
Here is a list of some of the top entrance examinations for engineering:
JEE Main: The JEE Main entrance examination makes you eligible for admission into all the Indian Institutes of Information Technology, National Institutes of Technology and other centrally funded engineering institutions. The JEE Main examination is also a prerequisite for taking the JEE Advanced examinations required for entrance into the Indian Institutes of Technology.
JEE Advanced: this All India level examination can be taken up by those who have cleared the JEE Main examinations. This is an aptitude test which also applies to students aspiring for B. Arch courses. The top rankers of the JEE Main are shortlisted for this examination.
BVP CET: the Bhartiya Vidya Peeth Common Entrance Test allows you admission into the highly regarded engineering courses from Bhartiya Vidya Peeth. This multiple choice type examination has 100 questions on Mathematics and 100 on Physics.
BITSAT: this is an online test for entrance into engineering courses in any of the BITS Pilani campuses. The examination tests several competencies including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning.
COMEDK UGET: the Consortium of Medical, Engineering, Dental Colleges of Karnataka under Graduate Entrance Test grants you admission into some of the most coveted engineering institutes in the state of Karnataka. The list of member institutes keeps changing, so make sure you check it before you apply. The test scores are valid for one year.
EAMCET: every year, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University of Hyderabad conducts the Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test. This is a common entrance test for member institutions in the field of engineering, medicine and agricultural sciences. The test scores can make you eligible for both government and private institutions.
IPUCET: for admission in engineering in any of the colleges affiliated to the Indraprastha University, you have to pass the Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test. This is a test for admissions in the degree courses of various engineering streams. The test scores are valid for one year only. If you do not score well, you will have to take the test again the next year.
Rajasthan Pre Entrance Test: if you wish to study in one of the many engineering colleges in Rajasthan, you will have to appear for the state level Rajasthan Pre Entrance Test. This test is considered simpler than some of the more rigorous tests such as the JEE and the BITSAT. However, since Rajasthan is home to many a good engineering college, lots of students from all over the country prepare for this examination.
