How To Prepare For NIFT Entrance Exam

National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) conducts its entrance exam at a national level each year for graduate and post-graduate courses. In India, it is one of the premiere institutes in the fashion industry that provides exposure to students on global trends and styles. Entrance exam is conducted for admission in bachelor courses in various disciplines such as Fashion Design, Textile Design, Leather Design, Knitwear Design, Accessory Design, Communication Design, Apparel Production, etc. For post graduate courses, the disciplines are Fashion Management, Design Space, and Apparel Production. Undoubtedly, the exam is quite tough and tests the aptness for the field.    

Examination Format:
The examination has various rounds and starts with a written test followed by personality test, group discussion and personal interview. Written exam is designed to test the aptitude, creativity and managerial abilities. Aptitude or general ability test is meant for evaluating the common mathematics, logical reasoning, English comprehension, communication ability, general knowledge, etc.  Each round of examination has its own significance.

Candidates who get through the written test are called for GD and personal interview rounds. Personal interview focuses on examining the communication skills, personality, aptitude skills, etc. To analyze the leadership and interpersonal skills, group discussions are held in which students are grouped to speak on a particular topic. An intellectual team of judges observe the candidates while they present their views on the given topic.    

For bachelor programmes students who have appeared in XII exams or have already cleared from a recognized board can apply. The age limit for these courses is 23 years. For post-graduate programmes, the eligibility criterion varies as per the course demands and the age limit varies from 21-30 years.

Study Tips:
Thorough preparation is needed for clearing the NIFT entrance examination and some useful tips for effective studies are jotted below:

--Practice general ability section as much as you can.
--Read newspapers and magazines to keep yourself abreast of the current industry and general updates.
--To get a clear idea about the questions, go through the previous year papers and sample papers.
--Acquire required information about the field you are applying. Develop the conceptual knowledge to give your best in the exams.
--Manage your time properly so that you can answer each and every section. For time management take mock tests well in advance.  
                                                                         
To clear the prestigious examination, you have to work really hard and students who are keen to form a career in any of the above stated fields should start their preparation early.
